Vanessa Kary l fine artist studio…the way I’d like to remember it.
Peeling off the window decal after emptying the space of all my paintings.
Well it was fun while it lasted but sadly the doors to Vanessa Kary l fine artist studio closed for good at Art Central on Monday, April 30th. This entire experience has been bitter-sweet. I’m sad to have to close my studio but I’m also looking forward to see what’s next for me.
The studio originally opened for business in May 2011 as giles l kary studio. After seven wonderful months, my partner and I went separate ways and I kept the space to myself. In December 2011 it officially became Vanessa Kary l fine artist studio. It was a great space.
Even though it was only 89 sq.ft, there was still plenty of room to display my artwork on the walls. I even had room for an area rug, two 6′ tall sculptural light fixtures and an end table. The final touch was applying the “Vanessa Kary l fine artist” decal to the large window.
First Thursday’s were always the busiest time for all the tenants at Art Central but for some reason the traffic just started to dwindle. I was even there on a few Saturday’s and the place was quiet…just a few interested people on an artwalk or doing some shopping. When the possibility of renewing my contract came around, I decided it was in my best interest to close my studio. Why stay open if there’s no one to view my artwork?
I’ve decided to look for a new studio/gallery space in the beltline area of Calgary. Perhaps Kensington, Inglewood, 11th Avenue SW or even 17th Avenue SW would have great spaces. I’ll be taking my time to make sure the next space is in an excellent location.
It’s not the end…but just the beginning of an exciting new chapter!

V, new chapter and new beginning are waiting for you. Here is a good quote for you:
“Life is simple. Everything happens FOR you, not TO you.
Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late.
You don’t have to like it… it’s just easier if you do.”
