It just came to me one night in a Dream. Create a NEW collection. Call it Carnivale.
I decided it’s time to create an entirely new collection of paintings complete with texture, abstract figures and dark, twisted imagery based on inspiration from travelling carnivals.
I don’t plan on abandoning my Liquid Landscapes Collection since my Dream Series will launch in early 2013. This new project will be in addition to my current collection.
The Carnivale Collection will be broken down into three Series. I’m still in the process of coming up with the names but have visual images in my head of what each will look like.
These new paintings will start to appear over the next few months. Stay tuned!

In the beginning…I painted the canvas with basic primary colours.
Time for the fun part…adding modeling paste.
I covered most of the canvas with the paste and scraped away the rest.
I began adding acrylic paint and bits of metallic leaf.
It needed more depth…so I kept adding more paint.
I attended a 2-Day Abstract Workshop at the Calgary School of Art with Danielle Bartlette. It was a multi-media extravaganza! We explored with washes, staining, underpainting, texture, gold/copper leaf and acrylic skins. I ended up creating quite an interesting piece.
I’m still on the fence as to whether or not it’s finished. I could push it even further…add more colour, more gold/copper leaf, more modeling paste and even more acrylic paint.
I’ve been approached by a few people who like it just the way it is…”STOP” they said.
Perhaps I’ll walk away from it for a week or two. If I come back to it and feel I need to add something to it, then I will. So I’ll give you an update…and we’ll all see what I’ve decided.

I was at the Grand Opening of The Viewing Room Gallery at F2 Furnishings in Edmonton on Friday night. It was crazy busy and the event was very well received from many of Alberta’s élite art collectors, art dealers, interior designers, home builders…I could go on.
There was live music in different areas of the 35,000 sq ft showroom. The pianist was quite impressive as well as the band with the saxophone. Canadian Idol finalist Martin Kerr was also singing at the event.
I took quite a few photos of the different sections of artwork in the Gallery. There were so many sections that after a while…I just stopped taking photos. During the 4 hours I was at the event, I was able to take the time to personally view all the paintings, photographs and glass sculptures…not to mention all the unique furniture and lighting in the showroom.
I have my own section in the Gallery with five of my original abstract paintings on display. It was great to visit one-on-one everyone interested in my artwork. Their positive comments make it all worth while since most of the time I don’t know how my work is being received.
There was one gentleman who was so impressed in my technique and colour palette that he’s interested in having a large, vibrant, custom painting for his home in Canmore, AB.
Overall I had a fantastic time at the event. I went alone to the event but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I live the life of an artist. I thrive on solitude. It helps me stay focused.
