Has anyone ever told you that you just don’t have what it takes to_____________?
Someone once told me that I’d never be anything more than a silly waitress/bartender (this was 10 years ago)…and you know what? I believed them!
I thought, “Yah, you know…he’s right. That’s all I’m really good at.”
I’d always had big dreams of being a professional artist but I had doubts that it would ever come true. Other people’s negativity dragged my hopes of becoming anything but a “silly” waitress/bartender and so I slowly started to give up my dream…and boy what a dream!
My studio would sit up high, on top of an enormous cliff, overlooking the majestic rocky mountains and the winding river below. It would be big and bright with large windows to let the natural light in. There would be dozens upon dozens of large canvases and multiple rows of paint to allow me to keep painting for as long as I wanted…well into the night and for days and weeks on end. There would be a loft where I’d sleep when I got tired and a small kitchenette so I could fix something when I got hungry. The balcony would have a little porch swing so I could take in the beautiful landscape that would serve as inspiration. I’d even have my own gallery with an adjoining coffee/bookstore in a small town just minutes away from my studio. I’d teach there on weekends to local emerging artists.
I’d like to tell that certain someone that my dream is slowly but surely starting to come true. I do have a studio space. Even though it’s a home studio, I have a ton of paint and canvases to keep me painting for days. The lighting isn’t so great but I’m working on it! I do have a gallery space. It’s at Art Central. It’s only 89 sq.ft. but its a start! It’s all baby steps. Just stay focused and the pieces will start falling into place.
If you don’t believe the dream you want is possible to achieve then you won’t take action. If you don’t take action then you don’t get results. If you end up getting crappy results, that reinforces your original belief that your dream is impossible.
If you visualize yourself achieving your goals, your body will experience it as though it’s actually happening to you, which is incredibly powerful. This means that if you intensly visualize achieving your goals on a regular basis, you can literally change your potential. By conditioning your mind every day, visualizing yourself reaching your goal and then act, you’ll be amazed at how quickly the things you considered once to be impossible begin to manifest. Whether or not you achieve your goals isn’t determined by positive or negative thoughts. Action determines your results. If you take a lot of action, you’ll get a lot of results. If you take very little action, you’ll get very little results.
“You can have anything you want – if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose.” – Abraham Lincoln
